English Presentation

Check out my Glog Post:

Final Blog Post

Some skills I have learned in this class are time management. Being on an online class has taught me how to make time to get things done because everything is up to me. I like it because it forces me to become more independent, and responsible with my learning. I will apply them to my career in the future by learning how to deal with one patient at a time. In the future I plan to become a pediatric nurse and I am going to have to need good time management with patients. The readings in this class were tough but I enjoyed them. I think that they are difficult in a good way though because they forced me to think and read between the lines. I normally don't like reading but I really like the readings you chose this semester. I believe I have met the learning objective for this class. For example, one of the learning outcomes are to interpret and analyze text and I believe that they reading we got this year, I was able to interpret and analyze them. I think I have become better at analyzing a text and I have learned the difference between summarizing and getting to the root of the meaning. My writing process has changed from procrastinating and not doing peer edits to realizing that I need to use the resources that are given to me. Like the learning center, or the online tutors. Also, to make sure that everything flows and each paragraph has a strong point that ties back to my thesis. Some challenges in the class were getting myself to sit and read. I don't like being still I am really active and I don't read, but I was forced to read because I needed to know the text in order to write my papers. But in the process of reading I've actually learned to like it a lot more because I was interested in the texts and the overall messages of the readings were insightful.

Blog Post #13

I personally like online learning better because I am able to do it on my own time. Also, I focus better on my own than in class surrounded by people. I have a busy schedule and I am a very independent person so it fits with my schedule really well. In person I find that I get more tired listening to lectures rather than watching videos on my own time. When I'm forced to go to class at a certain time I don't want to go, but when I am able to do work on my won time it's much better for me. I am also really responsible and complete on my work so I am able to handle an online class. I benefit from online class because I have better time management and all of my work and assignments are one line. So I don't forget assignments because all I have to do is log into my portal and look into the folder of the correct week that I am on. I tend to forget things when I hear them in class because I am too lazy to write it down, but in an online environment everything is at my fingertips so it's easier for me to maintain. I also really like the videos because I can always go back and watch them whenever I need them. I found a really good site that sums up how I think online classes are beneficial: 10 Advantages of Online Courses. I learned how to make videos and upload them to my blog. I also like the fact that we have the option to write to make a video because it gives me an option that is easier and works for me. I feel that with online classes I have more freedom with my work and assignments. Overall, I like online classes better than in class. The only disadvantage about having online classes is that it doesn't give you a chance to meet with people face to face. But, online classes are more beneficial to me because I get more one on one time and I have a better focus.

Blog Post #12

My essay #3 is slowing along but I'm struggling on trying to make it a strong paper. I don't usually make strong revisions because I'm lazy and tend to write my papers close to the due date. Revisions would probably save me from making little mistakes that bring down my grade. I'm not a strong writer and I have a hard time creating a strong all sound paper. For my essay #3 I am trying to use good quotes that support my thesis. Also making sure  that every paragraph of my paper has a clear point that ties back to my thesis. But I'm going to be turning my paper into the no questions asked because I want to spend extra time to make sure that my essay is strong. I also want to keep using the learning center and have my peers revise it. This is a link to a site that helps with essay revisions: http://academic.brooklyn.cuny.edu/english/melani/cs6/revise.html

Blog Post #11

Introductory Paragraph:

Everyone has a different view on life and death. In Don DeLillo's "White Noise" each character had a different view on death. "White Noise" is about people who do or do not have a fear about death. The main character Jack is obsessed about death and the novel follows him through his journey and experiences that make him not fear death anymore. Everyone dies at one point and "White Noise" is about people and their fear of death.

Blog Post #10

I read  Tom LeClair’s, Closing The Loop:  White Noise, and it first began talking about the previous works of  Don DeLillo. He wrote it in 1985. Also how White Noise is about "closing the loop" how the "circle is slowly closing." Then Tom LeClair summarizes and analyzes the book which was very helpful because it made White Noise easier to understand. He talks about the three parts in White Noise which helped me to understand the book much better because he pointed out things that made me see things in a different light.

This article will help me with my essay #3 because I am choosing to write my essay on the fear of death and this article gave me a better understanding of White Noise, and how it is about how the "circle is slowly closing." I really like how he broke up the book into three parts because it was a really good analysis about the 3 major parts in the book White Noise.Tom LeClair made White Noise much simpler to read and understand by identifying patterns and strategies.

Response to White Noise

I started reading the book over spring break, but had a hard time because my grandma is currently in the hospital and slowly dying. I spent my break helping out my family with everything around the house and visiting my grandma. I hard a hard time reading the book because it was about death and I am going through a difficult time with my grandma. Also, I didn't quite understand the book but I re read some chapters a couple of times. But I got far enough into the book to understand that White Noise is about the fear of death. It takes others peoples different point of views about death. While having an interesting love story with Barbette and Jack. I like the book because it's interesting and I like seeing different takes of death through other peoples lives. It's defiantly not what I expected this book to be about, but it makes me want to continue reading to find out what happens in the end, and really see the over all message of the book with a better understanding.

Cool article from the New York Times about White Noisehttp://www.nytimes.com/books/97/03/16/lifetimes/del-r-white-noise.html
